Chrisette Michele at The Gramercy Theatre on Saturday 7pm, free door for the listed. The R&B vocalist's career has had more lives than most and the current touring band lets her work the slow material the way the early records did. The Gramercy is the right scale for this, intimate enough that the vocal stays the centre but big enough that the band can stretch. Decent bar, manageable sightlines from the balcony. Worth the trip for the slow songs alone.
Death Angel, Vio-lence, Incite
Death Angel headlining a thrash bill at The Gramercy on Wednesday with Vio-lence and Incite opening. Free at the door for those listed, 6pm doors. Death Angel are the survivors from the original Bay Area thrash bloodline, still touring, still playing tight, still drawing a crowd that knows every cut. Vio-lence is the underrated half of the bill. The Gramercy floor handles a circle pit fine. Wear something you don't mind sweating in.
