Five parties for the week
Into The Woods presents Ben UFO (Extended Set)
Into The Woods bringing Ben UFO to Los Angeles for an extended set, Friday from 3pm, $20, location-TBA warehouse format. Ben UFO is one of the genuinely irreplaceable selectors working right now, the Hessle Audio co-founder whose taste runs wider than the techno bookings suggest. Three or four hours of him in a room he doesn't have to compete with is the format that does him justice. Mesmé and Maheras hold the warm-up. 21+. Sign up for location.
Lineup. Ben UFO, Mesmé, Maheras
Tunedin UCLA presents: Between Friends (dj), Junior Varsity (dj), and Special Guests
TunedIn UCLA on a Friday afternoon at 541 Gayley in Westwood, Between Friends and Junior Varsity in DJ mode. Free, 2pm start, student-run. The TunedIn collective has been one of the more interesting bookers on the LA student circuit, pulling in mid-tier indie acts to do DJ formats they don't usually do. Between Friends spinning their own catalogue plus the songs they grew up arguing about is the kind of set you don't get elsewhere. Open to the public.
INCOGNITO presents Photek + Nastia (DnB Set) + BB Shaine | Memorial Day Weekend
INCOGNITO's Memorial Day weekend warehouse, Photek headlining with Nastia on a drum-and-bass set and BB Shaine opening. Friday 4pm start, $20, location dropped by text at 8pm. Photek is the genuine article, one of the architects of the drum-and-bass sound that defines the genre's history, and the touring set has been sharper this year than it was for a long time. Nastia going DnB instead of her usual techno is the curiosity. Bring earplugs and water.
Lineup. Photek, Nastia, BB Shaine
IN BETWEEN: Luke Alessi • PAURRO
IN BETWEEN at a TBA warehouse near the 6th Street Bridge on Friday from 8pm, $20 to $40, Luke Alessi headlining with PAURRO, Capes, and fun2bjane. Alessi has been one of the more interesting names in the new wave of house and techno, the records leaning funky-acid and rave-nostalgic without committing to one camp. PAURRO from Mexico City brings the harder counterweight. Location drops day-of by text. Bring water. The 6th Street stretch gets warm even after sunset.
Lineup. Luke Alessi, PAURRO, Capes, fun2bjane
